Weaver’s Tackle Fishing Report – Bennett Spring

How’s fishing?

Fishing this week at Bennett Spring has been good overall, with steady action in all three zones. We had rain last weekend which cause the water to raise quite a bit. We did have some rain yesterday and today but not enough to cause any flooding like. The water is currently slightly murky with a medium flow, but still very fishable. I got to fish with my good friend Jeff Arns on Monday and Tuesday and did very well drifting mops and stripping wooly buggers down by the whistle bridge.

The cream mop fly has been the top producer this week in Zones 1 and 2. Anglers fishing it under an indicator or drifting it deep have been catching fish consistently. If you’re not throwing a mop right now, you’re probably working harder than you need

Marabou jigs in darker colors like black and olive  and black and yellow have also been producing, especially in the mornings.

Fly anglers are picking up fish on cracklebacks and small nymphs, but most are having better luck slowing things down and getting deeper.

Down in Zone 3, PowerBait (white, peach, orange) along with worms and eggs have been working well. Focus on deeper, slower water for the best results.

We’ve had several quality fish reported this week, including a few in the 3 to 4 pound range.

Current Water Conditions:

  • Bennett Spring gauge: 2.0 ft
  • Niangua River gauge: 2.4 ft
