Doug and Drew from Spring Hill, Kansas
How’s Fishing? We had another good week of fishing here at Bennett Spring. Several anglers came up to the store with great reports. Couple anglers reported the bite was slow for them but the majority reported they were catching some nice fish. With that being said we didn’t have near as many lunkers brought up but still some nice 1.75 and 1.9 pounders.
What’s working? A guy joked with me this week about what was working and I notably named off a couple of jigs and flies. He told me he liked to drift with an indicator. So when someone says they like to drift flies I always mention the cream mop fly. Of course, he said, “So you have an abundance of cream mops and wanna get rid of them.” Well needless to say he bought a couple of cream mops and was back again later for more. This is definitely not a sales pitch but those little guys are great! Not to mention I talk about them in every report.
A couple of other good drifting jigs this week were various glow balls in brighter colors like, white, peach, Jimi Hendrix and the Easter egg. Another good drifter was the orange mop, white fur bug, and peach fur bugs.
Of course, the Black and Yellow marabou jigs is always a good choice, but other colors like orange, white, pink ,black and red, and olive are always a good choice. If I was going to be throwing a wet fly this week, several anglers were stripping leach patterns. 1/80th ounce marabou in darker colors were also popular with the fly rod.
In zone three, the old trusty worm did the job for several anglers. I overheard a couple anglers in the store talking about the pink plastic grub. If you like throwing dough bait then I would go with Rainbow PowerBait, Salmon Peach PowerBait, White PowerBait, Yellow PowerBait, Trout Pellet Powerbait . Another stand out Dough Bait that has worked well for anglers that dare to try new things is the Bentley’s Secret Bait. This is a homemade bait that has been working well on the stream for the past couple of weeks.
I hope everyone has a great Friday and hope to see you here at Bennett Spring. Good luck, be safe and well see you on the stream!

]]>Opener 2024! Welcome back anglers! We had a great opening this year. With several fish caught along with some nice lunkers. March 1st for many folks is comparable to Christmas. Anglers travel from all over to experience the opening morning of trout season. It’s truly an experience you will never forget. This year the opening siren ringer was Don Harbaugh, 93, of Saint Louis. Don has been fishing at Bennett Spring for over 75 years. I got to witness Don fire the start gun. He had a great time doing so as he shot it off multiple times. Congrats Don!
How’s fishing? We had a great catch and release season with several nice fish caught this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday we have had great fishing reports with several nice fish brought up to be weighed. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we had some great fishing even with the rain.
Kathy Crim from Plainville, IL
What to use? Black and Yellow marabou jigs, yep that’s right black and yellow is what several anglers start out with in the mornings here at Bennett Spring. I don’t know what it is about the b&y marabou jig but it’s a very productive jig. Other jigs that always work great are the ginger, gingersnap, (brown and yellow), light pink and (red and white.)
Clayton from Illinois
If drifting with an indicator is your game than I would most definitely go with the cream mop fly. This produced several nice fish and a bunch of lunkers last year. This year it has already proven to be a great drifter. The white, orange, olive mops are also a good choice.
Jake and Judd from Tuscumbia, MO
One of my favorites last year on the drift was the white thread jig. Of course, the Jimi Hendrix, tri color original and the Easter egg are always a good choice in the glow balls.
Another underestimated fly is kapok. This works really great with a split shot. The kapok fly comes from the kapok tree. This was originally used for life jackets as it floats. Running a split shot approximately a foot from the kapok and letting it bounce the bottom works wonders.
In zone three Bentley's Secret Bait-Garlic was working awesome. Several angler reported it worked great this past week. Salmon Peach PowerBait, White PowerBait, Sherbet Powerbait , Trout Pellet Powerbait are a few favorites for anglers on the stream.
All of us at Weaver’s are excited for another year and can’t wait to see everyone. Have a great season everyone! Good luck, be safe and as always, we will see you on the stream!

How’s Fishing- We have had a great couple weeks of fishing. The weather has been pretty decent though the cold weather is moving in on us as the 2023 catch and keep season is coming to an end. So what’s been working? The white thread jig has been working great under an indicator. RGN and zebra midges have also landed several fish this past week. Cracklebacks in the Pumpkin Orange and Bennett Blue worked really well also. Now I said this in my last report but it again was successful for me. After attempting the Renegade dry fly on top, I tucked my rod tip under the water and stripped it as a wet fly. This was a very successful method for me. Now I should also mention that this is all with a floating line without a sink tip. In zone 3- Chartreus green PowerBait was the key for many anglers as it worked very well.
We have had a great year here at Weaver’s Tackle. We have made many new friends and along with some great memories. Everyone here at Weaver’s would like to thank everyone who supported us and we can’t wait to see you next year. I will have the store open during the catch and keep season on Friday and Saturdays from 8 to noon. If you need anything at all please call the store. I hope everyone has a great last few days of the season. As always good luck, be safe and will see you on stream.

Braelyn had a great catch!
How’s Fishing? The past couple weeks of fishing have been great. The weather has been perfect for fishing. This past Saturday we had ladies free fishing and had a great turn out with several nice trout brought up.
So what working? Here lately it seems like the smaller fly has been the most productive. Midges and nymphs have worked well. A particular fly like the RGN was the key for me this week. I fished the RGN in the fast water below the spillway and it worked great. I also did very well stripping a Renegade. The renegade is most generally a dry fly though it can also be fished as a wet fly. Other flies that have worked well is the green and chartreus crackleback. I won’t forget to mention the Bennett Blue Crackleback as it usually works well.
If you like throwing Rooster Tails, then I would probably go with white as several angler reported the white Rooster Tail was working great. In zone 3 white, salmon peach and salmon red PowerBait was productive.
The leaves are starting to change and fall is knocking at the door. We only have a couple weeks left of the catch and keep season so get here as November is right around the corner. I hope everyone has a great week! Good luck, be safe and we’ll see you on the stream!

How’s Fishing? Sorry about the late report everyone. It has been very busy the last couple weeks. It’s starting to slow down here as the end of the 2023 catch and keep season is getting closer. Its crazy to think that October 31 it just around the corner. But its not here yet and you sill have time to make it to Bennett and wet a line.
We have not had near as many lunkers brought up, though the fishing for several folks has been great! I made it down to the stream a couple of times this week and caught several fish. Of course, my fishing buddy which is my eight-year-old daughter, Ellie had to show me up and caught and released yet another lunker for the year.
So what's been working? If you like stripping cracklebacks, the Bennett Blue, chartreus, olive and Pumpkin have been really productive. This past Thursday, I fished next to a fella named Doug from KC. Him and his buddy were drawing a lot of attention as every other cast was a rainbow. Another favorite this past week was the bleeding black and yellow wooly bugger. The top water fishing was pretty good also. I threw elk hair caddis, renegades, Griffiths gnats and black foam beetles and did very well. Glo balls- now this mini jig did some damage on the stream the past couple weeks. The apricot with the red dot, and the tri color original were a favorite for several anglers. If you throw marabou, I would probably use, ginger or ginger snap as more than half of the angler that came in reported they were working for them.
I hope everyone has a great Friday and has a chance to make it over this weekend. We are looking to have some beautiful weather which usually brings some good fishing. Good luck, be safe and I’ll guarantee, you will most likely see me on the stream!

How’s Fishing? We have had another couple of good weeks of fishing. The first part of the week was a bit slower compared to how fishing has been though still good fishing. The water is moving pretty slow and the trout are really checking out the jig before they grab it. It seemed like anglers who were using 4 pound line were not as successful as the 2 and 3 pound line anglers. Fly fishermen who were were stripping flies did well along with the spinning rod anglers who were throwing Rooster Tails, Marabou and other fast moving jigs did very well! Dry flies did really well this week- beetles, cicadas and grasshoppers especially during the evenings did well. I had the chance to get down a couple of times this week with Ellie and some friends. Ellie is really starting to love her fly rod and catching some nice trout! The week day crowd is starting to slow down as schools all around are getting ready to start back up. I hope everyone had a great weekend- good luck, be safe and we’ll see you on the stream!

How’s fishing? We’ve had a couple of great weeks of fishing since my last report. Fishing has truly been awesome with some of the biggest fish that I have seen in a while. In the past two weeks we have had over 100 lunkers. We’ve had several 2 pounders, 3 pounders, 4 pounders, one 5 pounder, one 7 pounder and a 10 pounder. At one point last week we actually ran out of lunker pins. So yeah, fishin has been great. We had a little rain which hasn’ affected the stream.
So whats working? Now depending what zone your fishing, I would have to say all three zones had several fish caught with brighter and flashy colors like white and orange. In zone 1 and 2-orange mop flies, white mop fly, white thread jig(aka floss jig), bed spread mini jig, tri color original glo ball were just a few of the mini jigs that were working great. If you like throwing marabou jigs, then I would go with black and yellow which absolutely covered the lunker board this week. Seemed liked every other lunker brought up was b&y! White, orange, salmon also were popular. Copper, bumblebee, sparkle white and sparkle pink were just a handful of Rooster Tails that several angler said was working. PowerBait in white, salmon peach, cheese, pink and orange were popular in zone three. We hope to have another good weekend of fishing. Good luck, be safe and we’ll see you on the stream.

How's Fishing? I would have to say we have had a pretty good week of fishing. Met several happy anglers this week who reported they did very well. A variety of different flies and lures were used by anglers this week and seemed to be working well. In zone 1 and 2, I would have to say a majority of the angler were reporting the glo ball was the key to their success. The old Jimi Hindrix glo ball and the Peach Glo ball drifted with an indicator was working great. Another great jig this week was not just the cream but the white mopfly also drifted with an indicator. We had a couple of folks come up and wanted to venture up into zone 1 and zone 2. They used their spinning rods with a weighted bobber and an assortment of mopflies and glo balls. They later came up with some nice stringers. The yellow hackle with a spinner worked great for anglers this week.

How's Fishing? We have seen some nice fish come in this week, Several angers reporting the fishing was great and a handful reporting the fishing was great but the catching was a little slower. The stream is holding some very nice trout left over from the weekend. We had several anglers bring up full stringers with fish weighing over 1.25 lbs to 1.50lbs. For the most part the stream is looking very clear, slightly stained and flowing normally for this time of the year. We had several folks throwing Rooster Tails in the darker colors and reporting they were working really well. John Deere Mini jig with a tail and the Peacock mini jig worked well for a couple anglers. The crawdad marabou jig worked great for several anglers. This is for our first time readers so not trying to be repetitive in my reports but don't forget about the cream mopfly and the good old trusty black and yellow marabou jig. These have to be two of our most popular jigs that can be used with a spinning rod or a fly rod.
We had a great crowd in for the Free Veterans Fishing Day. Several nice fish were brought up by Veterans. We have a little cooler weathering moving in for this weekend though it looks like we are going to have some nice sunshine.
Have a great weekend everyone, have fun, stay safe and see you on the stream.

We have had some cold weather this week though even with that said, I think we had a good week of fishing. Several nice fish were brought up between 1 and 2 pounds. The water is flowing pretty good and the steam is murky though it is getting clearer everyday!
Last couple of evenings the stream has had a couple of good hatches with a bug resembling a stonefly. Seen a lot more top water action this week with dry flies. So if you fish a dry-Renegades, parachute Adams and Quill Gordons were useful this week. The ginger snap, orange & white and black & yellow Marabou were popular in zone 1and 2 this week. We also had a few customers that stated little green canker worms were falling off the trees in the wind so they put on a chartreuse mopfly and were successful. It looks like we are going to have a nice sunny weekend. I hope everyone is able to get out and get a line in the water. Stay safe and have a great weekend. Tight lines and as always, we will see you on the stream!

How’s fishing? We had a good week of fishing! We had a couple days with some rain which made the stream pretty murky and a little higher. The stream has receded to close to normal levels. Most anglers reported that fishing closer to the banks led them to catching more fish. Usually when the water is murky the consensus is fish dark and deep though the color didn’t appear to matter this week. Angler were using bright and also dark colors and were very successful.
So what was working? In zone 1 and 2 -The black and yellow marabou did very well again this week, along with jigs that contained shiny, sparkles or UV material. The mopfly and mega worms were also pretty popular in cream, white, olive and orange. In zone 3 white, yellow and orange worked well. A couple anglers reported the red salmon eggs were working great.
We have a pretty good chance of rain today though Sunday looks promising. I hope everyone has a great weekend. We will see you on the stream!

How’s Fishing? We have finally made it to the 2023 trout season! Anglers travel from all over to experience the opening morning of trout season. It’s truly an experience you will never forget. This year Danny Goldsmith was the siren ringer and started the season off. I couldn’t think of anyone better to be chosen for the #1 tag. Danny is an angler that is always willing to help and pass on the tradition of trout fishing to anyone!
So how did the season start off? The season has started off great with more than 20 lunkers brought up the first day. Many anglers started off with a spinning rod and were using marabou. I would have to say black and yellow marabou took the lead on most popular jig. Many anglers were also slaying the rainbows with Rooster Tails. The zone 3 anglers were pretty successful with PowerBait-“white”, “yellow”, “salmon peach” and “cheese”.
We have had quite a bit of rain today though we’re are shaping up to have a nice weekend. As always the water levels drop pretty quickly on the stream and I think we will have a good weekend of fishing.
All of us at Weaver’s are excited for another year and can’t wait to see everyone. Have a great season everyone! Good luck, be safe and as always, we will see you on the stream!

How Fishing?
The weather has been great the past couple of days. We have had some nice cool mornings and evenings along with some good fishing. I have seen angler catching some pretty nice fish- some big and some small but all in all pretty decent fishing. So what's working? Top water flies have been really popular the past couple weeks. Renegades, Griffiths Gnats, Parachute Adams and Quill Gordon's have been working the best. Beetles have also worked really well.
If you like to throw jigs, Ginger marabou and white marabou have been working well. In zone 3- Yellow Powerbait and Orange Powerbait has also been the color of choice for several anglers.
We look to have another beautiful weekend ahead of us. I hope everyone has a chance to make it back as the season is narrowing down. Have a great weekend and be safe.

How's Fishing?
We had a couple of really nice rain showers this week along with some really good fishing. The rain did not change the stream much and is still clear with a normal flow. So what is everyone using on the stream? Several anglers are either stripping cracklebacks or using dry flies. Another pretty popular jig this week was the fur bugs. These are comparable to the glow bugs though a little smaller. In zone 3 worms were very popular again this week. If you enjoy using Powerbait, the White with glitter and Orange with glitter were reported to be what was working the best. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend and good luck on the stream!
