Fishing Report

Terry from Grandview, MO

Good afternoon from Bennett Spring. We have had a great week with several nice lunkers brought up this week. I went down this morning and did a live stream of Bennett. The water level is at 2.12 at the guage house which is great and the discharge is near 220 cubic feet per second. This is much better than the past couple of weeks. The water is slightly stained but you can see fish.

The flies and lures this week has been a toss up between several different flies. Of course, our number one fly this week was the cream mop fly run deep with an indicator.  White thread, John Deere mini jig, Tri color glo ball and cream fur bug were also working great for anglers. Marabou was also a great jig for anglers in the black and yellow, black and red, and the shell and white.  Rooster Tails also worked great, in Chrome, White, brown trout tinsel or orange. In zone three, Salmon Peach Power Bait and Rainbow Powerbait were anglers choice. I also spoke with a couple of anglers that were experimenting with new techniques in zone 3. They were running a straight hook with the Berkley Power floating eggs with a split shot. This worked well for them and was something for them to add to their arsenal of tricks for Bennett Spring.

Wade from St. Louis with his awesome stringer

Last week was kids free fishing and it turned out great. Several kids looked like they had some nice stringers. I made it down with my little Ellie and she did great with a chrome rooster tail. Thank you to Ben Havens and his team Bennett Spring Concessioners , the Bennett Spring Tying Group and the Ozark fly fishers for everything they do for these events. A lot goes into these events and the hard work shouldn't go unnoticed.
