Fishing Report
How's Fishing? We have had a rainy week of fishing but for those that stuck it out did pretty well. Several nice trout were brought up to be weighed and a couple more lunkers to be added to the board. There is a good chance of rain today and tomorrow but so far the stream has only risen from 1.65 to 1.70. That could change but for the most part we are still sitting ok as far as levels but we still have quite a bit of rain in the forecast.
So what has been working? This week in zone 1 and 2 we had several anglers throwing jigs. Several anglers started out with old faithful, which is the "black and yellow marabou jig" Switching it up to lighter colors like white as the morning progresses. Another good lure this week was the orange glitter Rooster Tail. Now the Rooster Tail is an excellent lure to throw and several anglers ask me this all the time and that is, "Can I use a Rooster Tail in zone 1?" And the answer is yes! If the Rooster Tail has a single hook, it is considered a fly and can be used in the fly zone. If it has a treble hook then it can only be used in zone 2.
Let's talk about good drifters for zone 1 and 2. Now I usually talk the cream mop fly up but this week I'm going to change it up a bit. The orange mop fly has been working great for anglers this week and actually the past couple weeks has been working very well. Now I would have to say keep that cream mop handy as it is definitely a great fly to drift. A couple others that I would keep on hand are the white thread jig, John Deere Mini Jig, Peacock Jig, Jimi Hendrix glo ball and the tri color original. I'll post a couple pictures of these jigs and the link to get them on store website! In zone 3 nightcrawlers have worked well along with Rainbow PowerBait and Hatchery Pellet PowerBait.
This week I would like to shine the spotlight on one of our local fly tiers. Larry Granneman ties several of our wooly buggers, cracklebacks and several of our mop flies along with several other flies. He has been tying flies since 1965 and has tied for Weaver's Tackle for over 10 years. Larry has been bringing his family to Bennett Spring since the 1990's. His favorite fly to tie is the crackleback and favorite fly to fish is the wooly bugger. We are very thankful and proud to have Larry as a tier. Thank you Larry for all you do!
I hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend. Good luck, be safe and we'll see you on the stream!
