Fishing Report

How’s Fishing? “This has been some of the best fishing in 40 years!”-Angler said this week. I would have to agree with him. A great week of fishing, now that doesn’t mean we didn’t have a couple anglers that thought it was maybe not as good but that's why you call it fishing and not catching.

The stream right now is cloudy though its maintaining but its headed down sitting at 2.2 feet. The fish are still hanging out pretty deep in the middle and also working the edges of the stream. I fished this week stripping cracklebacks and also did a little drifting. I landed a really nice 1.9 pounder with a crackleback that an 11-year-old named Cooper tied for me. It was beautifully tied blue with brown hackle. I threw it 2 times and on the third strip landed it. Thanks Coop!

Coop's fly doing work!

It doesn’t matter how old you are, the art of tying a fly is for everyone. Now starting out, times we may not tie the prettiest fly but that doesn’t matter to the fish. I find that the uglier the fly is- the better. It’s a great hobby that you can really use your imagination and also it pretty dang fun catching something you made yourself.

So, what else is working? Several anglers are using the drift method with mops in cream and also in orange. Another drifter that worked well was the bed spread mini jig.  Of course, the John Deere Mini jig is also working well.  In the glo balls Jimi Hendrix, Lt Roe with a red dot and the tri color original produce some nice fish this week.

Rooster Tails in the brown tinsel trout, rainbow trout have also been a couple of anglers favorites this week.

In zone 3, Green Label Pauztke Salomon eggs worked great. This is a a great bait to use with a split shot above the salmon egg around 1.5 feet. Throw it up stream and let it drift. I also like to stack 2 to 3 eggs on the hook covering the eye. Pink or even orange Trout Magnets were great in zone 3 this week. This set up can be jigged or even drifted with an indicator. PowerBait in White, Sparkle Orange, Sherbet and of course Salmon Peach were super popular this week.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend. Good luck, stay safe and well see you on the stream.
