Fishing Report

How’s Fishing- Hello anglers, and welcome back to the Weaver’s Fishing report.  What a great week of fishing we have had here at Bennett Spring. I myself along with several anglers have reported some great fishing. I went down this evening and witness several anglers in zone 2 and also in zone 3 pulling in several fish. We have also had three lunkers and also 4 or 5 anglers bring up some real nice fish that didn’t quite punch the 2 pound marker.

So what'd working? Well, my pops was back down this weekend and he fished his favorite spot on Sunday which is right up by the old island above the dam. Every time I turned around, he had one on with what I would say is now his favorite jig, the good o’l “John Deere mini jig.” Many anglers reported this jig has been fantastic this week so I would definitely throw it if you got it. Now I should mention that yes, the cream mop was doing its thing too and making a name for itself. So, I would also keep that fly handy.

Marabou jigs in zone 1 by the head of the spring were working great in the brown and salmon colors. Another popular marabou jig was the white gold-plated marabou.

Light Cahill and Quill Gordons were a great top water fly this week. I would even say the old Cicada is still getting the trout’s attention along with other types of foam beetles

So many anglers have been up and asked about stripping flies. So, I myself am using a floating line with a 15 ft sink tip. I run a 4 ft fluorocarbon leader off the sink tip and have done really well with the pumpkin, white, olive and Bennett Blue Cracklebacks. Now this does not have to be done with a sinking line nor a sink tip. This can be done with a floating line by placing your rod tip in the water and stripping the fly back. I prefer to use a sink tip to target the fish that are near the bottom but sometimes they are feeding within inches of the surface which makes a floating line fantastic.  There is nothing better than stripping a line and feeling a trout grab ahold of it.

In zone three Spring Green, Salmon Peach and orange in the PowerBait was working awesome. I also watched a couple with several fish using the white sparkle PowerBait. Cheryl was down this morning and caught several on Sherbet PowerBait.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Good Luck, be safe and I’ll see you on the stream.
