Fishing Report

Doug and Drew from Spring Hill, Kansas

How’s Fishing? We had another good week of fishing here at Bennett Spring. Several anglers came up to the store with great reports. Couple anglers reported the bite was slow for them but the majority reported they were catching some nice fish. With that being said we didn’t have near as many lunkers brought up but still some nice 1.75 and 1.9 pounders.

What’s working?   A guy joked with me this week about what was working and I notably named off a couple of jigs and flies. He told me he liked to drift with an indicator. So when someone says they like to drift flies I always mention the cream mop fly.   Of course, he said, “So you have an abundance of cream mops and wanna get rid of them.” Well needless to say he bought a couple of cream mops and was back again later for more. This is definitely not a sales pitch but those little guys are great! Not to mention I  talk about them in every report.

A couple of other good drifting jigs this week were various glow balls in brighter colors like, white, peach, Jimi Hendrix and the Easter egg. Another good drifter was the orange mop, white fur bug, and peach fur bugs.

Of course, the Black and Yellow marabou jigs is always a good choice, but other colors like orange, white, pink ,black and red, and olive are always a good choice. If I was going to be throwing a wet fly this week, several anglers were stripping leach patterns. 1/80th ounce marabou in darker colors were also popular with the fly rod.

In zone three, the old trusty worm did the job for several anglers. I overheard a couple anglers in the store talking about the pink plastic grub.  If you like throwing dough bait then I would go with Rainbow PowerBait, Salmon Peach PowerBait, White PowerBait, Yellow PowerBait, Trout Pellet Powerbait . Another stand out Dough Bait that has worked well for anglers that dare to try new things is the Bentley’s Secret Bait.  This is a homemade bait that has been working well on the stream for the past couple of weeks.

I hope everyone has a great Friday and hope to see you here at Bennett Spring. Good luck, be safe and well see you on the stream!
