Fishing Report

How's Fishing?

We have had a normal week of fishing. Half of the anglers coming in reported slower fishing and the other half reporting the fishing for them had been awesome.  As I said in my last report, if you feel like the fishing is tough  then change your game up a bit. Try something different and don't rely on the usual fly you normally throw. The stream is looking clear and flowing a little faster. We do have some rain in the forecast this evening though I believe we are clear for any of the heavy rainfall. This weekend is the MTFA- Trout Derby so make sure you register if you want a chance at some prices.
So what is working on the stream?  We had several Kapok fisherman this week, buying by the handfuls. This is definitely a fun fly to throw. Kopok comes from a tree and was used in the old life vest. The best way to fish this is with a split shot  12-15 inches above the kapok. Throw it upstream and let splt shot bounce the bottom. The kapok will float up resembling guts.
We are having several anglers reporting awesome dry fly fishing again this week. Pale Evening Dunn, Quill Gordon and the Renegade all in a smaller size have been popular.  John Deere and different colors like orange, olive and cream in the  mop fly have worked well.   Don't forget about the simple "white thread jig." You wouldn't think a jig head with some white thread would work but this little jig can be quite impressive. Glo balls in the Light Roe Pattern and Jimi Hendrix were also good this week.
A couple anglers fishing the hatchery outlet with small nymphs with an indicator were slaying the trout in the quick moving water. I tried this last weekend and had a blast.
I hope everyone enjoys the weekend. Good Luck, be safe and we'll see you on the stream!
