Fishing Report 12/18/2019

How's Fishing?

Fishing has been amazing!  The weekends have been beautiful until this last one.  The water is low and clear and the trout are more than willing to bite.  Catch and Release Season seems to increase the odds of catching a lunker.  Yes I am trying to get you out of the house and into the stream before March 1st.

I have used my flyrod and my spinning rod with great luck!  I have been using weighted woolies on my flyrod in various colors with great return.  I also found beetles worked very well on one of the warmer weekends for top water action!  I used woolly bugger jigs in Sculpin Olive as a color choice on my spinning rod set-up.  This is a fun time to be able to fish flies only in Zone 3, since Smallmouth Bass and Goggle-eye are equally ,sometimes more, active than the trout.  See you on the stream or the river!

Bennett Spring Trout Park is open for catch-and-release fishing only from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from the second Friday in November thru the second Monday in February. For 2019, fishing will start on November 8 and end on February 10, 2020. During catch-and-release season, only flies may be used and all fish must be released unharmed immediately.

There is a list at https://mostateparks.com/events/park/bennett-spring-state-park that gives all the details of other activities, such as hikes that are going on at Bennett Spring State Park through out the year.

Quote of the Week

Successful trout fishing isn't a matter of brute force or even persistence, but something more like infiltration.
